MYTH ABOUT DENGUE

1. Dengue happens only once

In fact, 1 person can get dengue four times in a lifetime. Dengue is an infection caused by 1 of 4 dengue viruses. When a person has Dengue Type 1 Dengue, he or she is still at risk of Dengue due to type 2 or 3 or 4.

2. We will be infected if contact with someone having dengue

In fact, only when you are bitten by a mosquito that contains the dengue virus, you’ll be infected. Dengue fever is not spread through the respiratory tract, or through contact with infected people. So, do not isolate people with dengue.

3. When the fever is over, it means the disease is over

In fact, when the fever is gone, it is necessary to closely monitor the signs of the disease worsening because this is the most likely stage to get worse.

4. Using antibiotics, the infusion will help to cure the disease quickly

Dengue is a viral disease, so antibiotics are ineffective. Infusion early at the wrong time does not make the disease go away quickly but can get worse.

5. Combine two antipyretic drugs to reduce the fever quickly

Currently, there are 2 main antipyretic drugs Paracetamol (Hapacol, Efferalgan, Tylenol, etc.) and Ibuprofen (Brufen, Ibrafen, etc). Using Ibuprofen will increase the risk of bleeding. Therefore, when fever lasts long 2-3 days or more, you need to see a doctor for proper diagnosis and intervention promptly.
