All about fats and their functions:

1. Trans Fat:

Cause atherosclerosis (stroke, myocardial infarction). Created when fat is heated at high temperature. It’s hard to get rancid and be reused over and over again. Examples: processed foods such as chips, muffins, fast foods, instant noodles.

2. Saturated Fat

It’s the second bad fat. Should be replaced with the good type to reverse atherosclerosis. The origin comes from animals and a few plants (coconut, palm). Concentrate at room temperature or a thick grease layer. For example animal meat (beef, pork), cheese, butter, margarine, mayonnaise, fast food (hamburger, pizza, sausage), ...

3. Unsaturated Fat

It is good fat. It contains in plants (except coconut, palm). Its state in liquid form at room temperature and no churning. Examples: vegetable oils (olives, peanuts, canola, sunflower, corn, soybeans), avocado, nuts (almonds, hazelnuts, walnuts), sesame, fish

NOTE

  • Fat is essential for keeping cell structure, hormones, absorbing vitamins A, D, E, K, ...
  • Different fats provide the same calorie. Reducing calorie intake and replacing bad fat is the key to avoid cardiovascular disease.
