Why does eating more vegetables but still get constipated?

11 out of 10 mothers have children who are constipation and anorexic. The mothers try several solutions to help their child, even feeding them a lot of vegetables but they still do not get better. Why is that? The following information will showcase the reasons:

1. Diet

If kids ate enough fibers but they still got constipation. Check again ingredients of meals, there might have other foods that cause it such as processed foods, too many dairy products, sweets, etc. Moreover, almost all children have constipation because of drinking too little water.

Besides, any other changes in diet, for instance, replacing breast milk by cow’s milk or changing to the weaning period also cause a disturbance in the baby’s digestive system which leads to constipation.

2. Fear of going to the toilet

Having constipation, kids often feel pain when pooping which causes the fear of bowel movements. As a consequence, they will stop going to the toilet. It makes constipation worse. Feces accumulated for a long time become more dry and stiff, make bowel more difficult.

3. Less physical activity

Daily exercise helps the bowel movements well, substances circulate easily in the intestines, reduce the risk of food accumulating in the colon causing constipation.

4. Use medicine

Certain medications such as relievers, allergies, antibiotics, or supplements like iron, calcium can cause constipation.

5. Pathology

Some pathology can cause constipation such as congenital aneurysm, hypothyroidism, cow's milk protein allergy, anorectal abnormalities which should be examined to rule out.

6. Whether fiber is appropriate

The fiber contained in vegetables and fruits helps to increase volume and soften the feces, making it easier to excrete. There are two types of fiber, water-soluble and insoluble: soluble fiber slows digestion and fermentation and helps the body absorb nutrients; Insoluble fiber helps the feces to be eliminated faster through the intestines.

In general, fruits and vegetables contain both types of fiber but in different proportions. Eating too much fiber can increase the risk of feces in babies who "have no bowel movements", making constipation worse.
