In the challenging context of an ever-changing economy, retaining talent is not only a critical issue but also a strategic factor determining the success and sustainable development of enterprises in Vietnam. Notably, attractive benefits, such as comprehensive healthcare programs, have proven their role in building trust and fostering long-term employee commitment. Furthermore, a workforce that is physically healthy and mentally resilient significantly enhances productivity while strengthening corporate culture, thereby creating a sustainable competitive advantage in the market.
To provide a comprehensive perspective on workplace health and propose suitable care solutions, CarePlus has conducted an updated statistical analysis of enterprise employee health for Q4 – 2024.
1. Employee Health Status in Q4/2024 and Expert Recommendations from CarePlus
Through specific data and scientific analyses by experts, we aim to provide enterprises with a comprehensive picture of workforce health. This insight allows for timely support plans to maintain a robust team, ready to excel and achieve success in the new year.
According to statistics, in Q4/2024, CarePlus observed a decrease in the percentage of employees undergoing periodic health checks who encountered health issues compared to Q1, Q2, and Q3 of 2024. This result underscores the critical role of regular health screenings in raising health awareness and ensuring employees remain physically and mentally prepared to focus on their work.
Key Findings:
Oral Health Issues: Dental and oral diseases remain the most common, affecting 88% of employees undergoing periodic health checks at CarePlus (excluding orthodontic and dental prosthetics cases already under treatment). The most prevalent conditions include gingivitis and dental caries.
Eye Problems: The rate of employees experiencing eye issues remains consistently high at 72%, showing little change from previous quarters.
Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) Problems: The percentage of employees with ENT issues increased by 15% compared to Q3, reaching 61%. The primary conditions include allergic rhinitis and chronic diseases.
Body Mass Index (BMI): Among employees participating in periodic health screenings:
80% have a normal BMI,
5% are underweight,
14% are overweight or obese (BMI >27), with 5% falling into the obese category (BMI >30, obesity grade 2 or higher).
BMI calculations are based on height and weight but do not reflect muscle-to-fat ratios. For individuals with high muscle mass, their BMI may classify them as overweight or obese despite being healthy. Therefore, incorporating body composition analysis using InBody devices is recommended as an additional health evaluation metric.
Metabolic Issues: Key concerns include:
Elevated blood lipids (61%),
Fatty liver disease (25%),
High blood sugar (8%).
These issues often relate to occupational factors (e.g., sedentary office jobs, prolonged stress) and lifestyle habits (e.g., low physical activity, consumption of high-calorie, fatty, or salty foods).
Recognizing these health risks early can help establish appropriate work and lifestyle adjustments.
Gallbladder and Kidney Conditions:
Gallbladder issues (e.g., gallstones, polyps, cholesterol deposits) affect 11% of employees.
Kidney conditions (e.g., kidney stones, calcifications, cysts) were also detected during abdominal ultrasounds. Most of these are benign but require regular monitoring. Prompt medical attention for unusual symptoms is essential to avoid complications.
Thyroid Lesions:
Among thyroid ultrasounds, 4,492 cases of thyroid lesions requiring monitoring were identified, including nodules and vascular proliferations.
Notably, 342 cases were classified as TI-RADS 4, and 75 cases as TI-RADS 5, indicating a higher risk of malignancy. Early biopsy and diagnostic procedures are recommended to optimize treatment.
In December 2024, the Vietnam Hypertension Subcommittee and Vietnam Cardiology Association updated guidelines for diagnosing hypertension and prehypertension based on the European Society of Cardiology’s 2024 recommendations. CarePlus has closely analyzed these new blood pressure benchmarks during health checkups. Findings show a gradual increase in prehypertension rates among younger employees.
Early detection of hypertension requires regular home monitoring, particularly for individuals with elevated clinic readings, white coat syndrome, or significant systolic-diastolic discrepancies.
Health Issues Among Female Employees
Female employees constitute 48% of the workforce undergoing periodic health screenings, with 24% aged 40 and above. Key findings include:
Breast Lesions: Among women over 40, 45% were found to have breast lesions, with 93 cases classified as BI-RADS 4 and 5, requiring advanced testing to rule out malignancy.
Uterine Fibroids: Detected in 11% of female employees. Although benign, these conditions require regular monitoring by gynecologists.
Mammograms for women over 40 and cervical cancer screening for at-risk individuals are highly recommended.
Health Concerns for Employees Aged 40+
Research indicates that individuals aged 40+ face an increased risk of chronic health issues such as diabetes and hypertension due to inflammation, insulin resistance from aging, stress, and imbalanced diets. Common conditions include:
Eye problems (e.g., refractive errors, cataracts, amblyopia),
Dental issues (e.g., tooth loss, gingivitis),
Metabolic disorders (e.g., hyperglycemia, fatty liver, hyperlipidemia, prehypertension, elevated liver enzymes).
Comprehensive cardiovascular evaluations are essential for early detection and prevention of complications. Routine cancer screenings are equally critical.
