WHY DO YOU GAIN WEIGHT EASILY THAN OTHER PEOPLE?

Easily gaining weight is not only an appearance concern, but also a sign of potential health problems we need to pay attention to.

WHY DO YOU GAIN WEIGHT EASILY THAN OTHER PEOPLE?

Easily gaining weight (by just breathing) is not only an appearance concern. Most of us attribute it to "gene" reasons; however, this condition can result from underlying health problems. Let's figure it out with MSc Nutritional Specialist Doctor Nguyen Phuong Anh at CarePlus International Clinics!

In fact, none of us need to breathe to live or to gain weight. So "just breathing makes you gain weight" refers to people who eat seemingly minor but gain weight easily.

To explain this absurdity, we need to understand the principle of energy balance. In particular, weight gain is a consequence of the energy intake being more significant than the energy consumed. Therefore, people who gain weight easily may have one of the following three common reasons.

1. Accidentally consuming foods with high energy density.

In fact, many people eat little during their main meals but snack on foods with high energy density. For example, 1 cup of medium-sized milk tea (M) provides roughly 300 kcal, or 1 bag of mixed rice paper also provides 500 kcal, while 1 cup of rice with food provides about 300 kcal. Therefore, just drinking 1 cup of milk tea is almost equivalent to eating 1 cup of rice.

2. People whose body composition is high in fat but low in muscle mass.

Fat cells use less energy than muscle cells, so people with a body structure high in fat and little muscle will consume less energy than people with an average body composition. Too much fat and less muscle is prevalent in those who are lazy in daily activities and rarely play sports.

3. People with physical diseases

For example, people with hypothyroidism consume less energy than ordinary people. Therefore, they are more likely to gain weight than others.

If you don't eat much and exercise hard but your weight is still gaining, you may need the support of a Nutritionist at CarePlus.

The Nutrition examination package at CarePlus is designed with a full range of items to help accurately assess body condition. Through anthropometric assessment, dietary assessment, and clinical examination, the Doctor will advise individualized nutrition and an appropriate exercise regimen for each customer.
