What To Do When Your Baby Has A Heat Rash?

5/7/2018 9:30:11 AM

Heat rash is an uncomfortable skin condition that is common in babies as well as adults during hot weather.

Causes: heat rash happens because your child’s sweet glands aren’t fully developed. They can get blocked if he/she gets too hot. When this happens, sweet can get trapped under the skin and form small lumps or blisters. This phenomenon usually happens:

  • During hot and humid climate
  • Strenuous exercise
  • During a fever
  • Your child is overdressed

Symptoms

Very small pinkish-red or clear blisters appear over your child’s face, neck and in the skin folds, especially in the nappy area.

Treatment

  • Making sure your child stays cool and avoids getting sweaty
  • Dressing him/her in light cotton clothing is also a good idea.
  • With plenty of rashes, give your baby a bath without soap in 10 minutes, 3 times/day and let it dry naturally.
  • With fewer rashes, cover them with cool towel in 5-10 minutes and let it dry naturally.

When to see your doctor

  • The rash lasts more than three days
  • The rash is likely to be infected: more redness and fill up with yellow or green pus
  • Your baby is generally unwell, has a fever or isn’t feeding well.
