In fact, the trend of early puberty in children is increasing due to obesity or an improper diet. So, what foods can increase the risk of early puberty in children?

What is Early Puberty?

Early puberty is the onset of physical and hormonal signs of puberty at an earlier age than usual (before 8 years in girls and before 9 years in boys).

The signs of puberty include breast development in girls and increased testicular volume in boys. Additionally, there may be signs such as rapid height growth, pubic and underarm hair, acne, mood changes, and body odor. According to the Food Safety Department of the Ministry of Health, foods that can cause early puberty include fried foods; animal organs; soy milk; ready-to-eat foods, etc.

Early Puberty and Its Consequences

The causes of early puberty can be genetic, or more rarely, due to brain tumors (more common in boys), congenital brain abnormalities, central nervous system injuries, or infections.

In the United States, there is an increase in both normal early puberty and pathological early puberty, which may be related to the rising levels of obesity in children. This is another reason to maintain a healthy diet for your child.

Abnormal signs of puberty in boys before the age of 10 and in girls before the age of 9 are considered early. Foods That Increase the Risk of Early Puberty in Children

  1. Poultry Neck Meat: The neck meat of poultry like chicken, duck, and goose often contains a lot of growth-promoting drugs. When children consume a lot of poultry neck meat, it can stimulate early puberty.
  2. Off-Season Vegetables and Fruits: These often contain residual harmful substances from off-season cultivation and artificial ripening processes, which can create a risk of early puberty when consumed by children.

  3. Fried Foods: High-temperature cooking of foods like fried chicken and French fries can alter their chemical structure, leading to endocrine disruption and earlier onset of puberty in children.

  4. High-Sodium Foods: Prolonged consumption of salty foods can harm a child's digestive system and kidneys. High salt intake activates neurokinin B, a hormone linked to reproduction, leading to early puberty.

  5. Animal Organs: Consuming dishes made from animal organs can lead to obesity and weight gain in children, which in turn triggers early puberty.

  6. Soy Milk: Soy products contain isoflavones, like estrogen, which can lead to early puberty in girls.

  7. Processed Foods: These contain preservatives, colorings, and flavorings that mimic sex hormones and are thus harmful to the growing bodies of children.

  8. Supplements: Many mothers buy multivitamins or use traditional herbal medicines like herbal chicken soup for their children, which can alter secretion processes and cause early puberty. These supplements often contain strong growth hormones that trigger early puberty.

Early or late puberty can affect physical development, especially the psychological and emotional health of children. To prevent early puberty, parents need to ensure their children have a balanced and adequate diet. Limit the intake of processed foods and fast foods that contain additives, unhealthy fats, and artificial colors such as canned food, sweets, fatty foods, and greasy foods. If children show signs of abnormal development for their age, they should be taken for a medical check-up.
