Developmental screening and consultation for children from 2 - 6 years old

During the journey of raising and caring for a child, parents may sometimes encounter difficulties with their child's behaviors or emotions, or feel concerned when their child appears to lag behind peers. Understanding these worries, the team of psychological specialists at CarePlus – who were trained to work with children - are here to support you.

Developmental screening and consultation for children from 2 - 6 years old

Each child is born unique and individual. Every child develops at their own pace, reaching important developmental milestones in areas such as play, learning, speech, movement, and behavior at different times. However, these key developmental milestones should be closely observed and assessed by psychological specialists to identify any early warning signs in a child’s development.

Signs to observe and be concerned about:

  • Delays in motor skills such as rolling, sitting up, crawling, or walking.
  • Poor eye contact, avoidance of others, frequent solitary play, and non-participation in group games.
  • Speech delays, lack of language, babbling, repeating others’ words without communicative function, and inability to engage in back-and-forth dialogue.
  • Inability to express hunger, pain, or emotions.
  • Repetitive and stereotyped behaviors.
  • Unusual behaviors not understood by adults, such as clapping hands-on legs, jumping, spinning, or bringing hands to the eyes.
  • Excessive climbing, jumping, and hyperactivity could be dangerous.
  • Difficulty regulating anger, frequent irritability, or occasional aggressive behaviors.

The Developmental Screening and Consultation Service at CarePlus for children aged 2–6 offers:

  • Screening and early detection of developmental disorders such as autism spectrum disorder, speech delay, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, intellectual developmental delay, language difficulties, learning disorders, and more.
  • Differentiating between developmental and psychological origins of issues; sometimes symptoms may overlap, making it difficult to identify their root cause.
  • Guidance for parents on how to support their child, including recommended interventions, at-home strategies, and necessary changes (if any).

How is the screening session conducted?

1. The psychological specialist meets and speaks directly with parents (or caregivers) to learn more about their concerns and the family’s needs.

2. The psychological specialist interacts with the child through play activities, conversations, exercises, etc., to better understand the child and their specific challenges.

3. The psychological specialist provides guidance on the next steps and support measures for parents.

The screening session is intended to detect risks of developmental disorders and/or psychological difficulties in children. It is not intended to provide a definitive diagnosis or clinical classification.

Duration: 60 minutes per session

Language: Vietnamese
