Being producing by inactivated diphtheria toxoid, attenuated tetanus toxoid and acellular pertussis, the Diphtheria - Tetanus - Pertussis (Tdap) 3-in-1 vaccine is safe during pregnancy. In the United States, the vaccine is recommended around 27-36 pregnant weeks to protect babies during early postpartum period.

If pregnant woman has been vaccinated before week 27, there is no need to re-inject in 27 - 36 weeks. If not, they should get vaccination immediately after delivery.

Family members and caregivers should aloso vaccinate against Tdap. Ideally, they should be injected at least 2 weeks before exposure to the newborn.
