MOST COMMON EMPLOYEE HEALTH ISSUES IN THE SECOND QUARTER OF 2023

8/17/2023 1:26:42 PM

According to internal data, in the second quarter of 2023, the rate of employees having periodic health check-ups at CarePlus suffered from gastroenterology diseases, thyroid lesions, breast lesions, and refractive errors from high to very high. Specifically:

  • Refractive error (nearsightedness, farsightedness) is the most common disease, accounting for 72% of employees.

  • Gingivitis accounted for a high rate, with 49% of employees.

  • Overweight and obesity (44%), dyslipidemia (44%), fatty liver (28%), elevated liver enzymes (18%), hyperuricemia (10%)

  • Thyroid lesions account for 32% of employees and should be monitored regularly.

In addition, the number of female employees with breast lesions accounted for 41%.

Besides that, through periodic health checks, we recorded many employees with hypertension, diabetes, known/treated or newly discovered cancer, renal failure, and cirrhosis. The above are all diseases that need to be closely monitored and treated promptly to prevent dangerous complications in the future.

Our doctors encourage employees to apply the following ways to improve their health and prevent early signs of disease.

It would be best to change into the correct sitting posture to improve or prevent refractive errors. Ensuring the workspace is well-lit and giving your eyes time to rest will also help limit the increase in nearsightedness/farsightedness/astigmatism. In addition, a diet rich in vitamins A and Omega 3 (carrots, tomatoes, watermelon, sweet potatoes, mackerel, salmon, herring, sardines,...) also helps to reduce eye accommodation disorders. Apply over-the-counter artificial tears to prevent discomfort and further strain if your eyes dry. More importantly, get an eye exam every 6-12 months to detect refractive errors early.

For problems related to metabolic disorders, such as overweight and obesity, dyslipidemia, fatty liver, elevated liver enzymes, hyperuricemia, etc., it is advisable to check and see a doctor periodically. Our doctor will review the test results to plan each individual's treatment plan. Not only using drugs but also combining nutrition counseling and appropriate exercise according to your condition and medical history. Besides, it is necessary to change the diet with lots of vegetables and fruits and reduce junk food - fast food.

Breast lesions (fibromas, breast tumors, cystic fibrosis) and thyroid lesions (hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, thyroid tumors,...) are mainly detected by ultrasound. The frequency of follow-up will depend on the grade and the risk of worsening. In high-risk subjects, mammography (for breast lesions) or biopsy (for both breast and thyroid lesions) will help to make a more accurate diagnosis for appropriate treatment.

Particle pollution from fine particulates (PM2.5) is a concern when levels in the air are unhealthy. Breathing in harmful levels of PM2.5 can increase the risk of common ear, nose, and throat diseases. To reduce the risk of illness, you must wear a mask, avoid smoking, and clean your ears, nose, and throat daily. When there are unusual symptoms such as nasal congestion, itchy throat, sore throat, or prolonged sore throat, ... you should see an Otolaryngologist for early diagnosis and treatment.

There are many common health problems for office workers. You can prevent them with just a few changes to your habits or surroundings. Sitting with the correct posture, managing stress, being more active, and maintaining a healthy weight,… are excellent ways to promote health and wellness.
