ACCURATE DOSAGE AND SCHEDULE FOR CERVICAL CANCER VACCINE!

Cervical cancer prevention is incredibly important for women. One of the most effective ways to prevent cervical cancer is vaccination against HPV, the high-risk virus associated with the disease. Alongside vaccination, health education plays a crucial role in preventing HPV transmission.

ACCURATE DOSAGE AND SCHEDULE FOR CERVICAL CANCER VACCINE!

What are the recommended doses and schedule for the cervical cancer vaccine?

As of May 10, 2024, the Drug Administration of Vietnam (Ministry of Health) has expanded the age recommendation for Gardasil 9 (HPV vaccine) to include individuals aged 27 to 45 years. People in this age range can now receive the vaccine without requiring prior medical consultation. Women under 40, even those who are sexually active or have children, can still get vaccinated, although the vaccine’s effectiveness may be reduced.

Therefore, women are encouraged to get vaccinated as early as possible. This vaccine offers protection lasting up to 30 years but does not work for those already diagnosed with cervical cancer.

Why choose Gardasil 9?

Gardasil 9, developed in the USA, is recognized for its gender-equal benefits, providing protection for both men and women against HPV-related conditions, including:

  • Cervical cancer

  • Vulvar and vaginal cancer

  • Penile cancer

  • Anal cancer

  • Throat cancer

  • Genital warts

Precancerous lesions or dysplasia, offering a protection rate exceeding 94%.

Vaccination schedule in Vietnam

The Ministry of Health recommends completing the 3-dose regimen of Gardasil 9 for both males and females aged up to 45:

  • 1st dose: Now

  • 2nd dose: 1–2 months after the 1st dose

  • 3rd dose: 6 months after the 1st dose

Important notes for HPV vaccination:

  • Pre-vaccination checks:

  • Undergo a gynecological exam and cervical cancer screening to ensure vaccination safety.

  • Adherence to the full schedule:

  • Complete all 3 doses as scheduled to ensure the vaccine’s effectiveness.

  • If delayed, resume with the next dose as soon as possible. You do not need to restart the series.

Who should get vaccinated?

  • Healthy individuals.

  • Those who have not yet been exposed to HPV.

  • Those not using immune-suppressing medications or receiving other vaccines within the past 4 weeks.

  • HPV vaccination does not require a Pap test beforehand.

Who should not get vaccinated?

  • Individuals with severe acute illnesses.

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding women, or those planning pregnancy within 6 months. Pregnant women who unknowingly receive the vaccine should pause vaccination until after delivery and ensure the entire series is completed within two years.

  • Those with a history of hypersensitivity to yeast or any vaccine ingredients.

Potential side effects:

  • Local reactions: Swelling, redness, or pain at the injection site.

  • Mild allergic reactions: Itching or rash, usually resolving quickly.

  • After vaccination, stay at the facility for 30 minutes for observation, and monitor your condition in the following days.
