Nasopharyngeal cancer is still quite new to many people. Two years ago, when the news of Kim Woo Bin - a famous Korean artist was diagnosed with cancer, people seemed to start to notice it. Because he was discovered with an early-stage through periodic physical exams, after the treatment period, this artist recovered his health. So let's find out cancer and how to screen it!

WHAT IS NASOPHARYNGEAL CANCER?

It accounts for the highest rate and most suspicious of all types of head, face, and neck cancer. Ranked 4th in the group of 6 most common cancers in Vietnam (stomach, liver, breast, lung, throat, uterus), accounting for 10-12%. Nasopharyngeal cancer is very rare in Europeans, but it is common in Asia, especially in southern China.

WHO IS AT RISK OF THE CANCER?

- People from 3 - 84 years old, of which 40-60 years old accounts for over 50%. Men have a high rate more than women: 3/1.

- Have a family history of cancer (parent/sibling) with nasopharyngeal cancer

- Have a habit of smoking, drinking alcohol, using stimulants

- Have a habit of eating more fermented foods: pickled foods, bacon, salted fish.

- People working in an environment exposed to much smoke, dust, chemicals, radiation, rubber, synthetic resin.

SYMPTOMS?

- Symptoms in the neck: swelling of the neck, the appearance of unilateral neck lymph nodes

- Ear signs: Tinnitus, hearing loss on one side, gradually increasing, and often low noise

- Signs in the nose: stuffy nose 1 side (gradually increasing), runny nose with blood

- Headache: is the most common sign, usually migraine, dull all day.

Symptoms of nasopharyngeal cancer are very little in the early stage (stage 1, 2), so screening will help to detect early to be able to intervene in time and increase the ability to treat public.

MASKED HYPERTENSION
Masked hypertension refers to a condition where a patient’s blood pressure (BP) appears normal (below 140/90 mmHg) when measured in a clinical setting but exceeds the threshold of 135/85 mmHg when measured outside the clinic, such as at home or with ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) over 24 hours. The concern with masked hypertension is that it often goes unnoticed, yet it poses significant health risks. If left untreated, it can lead to severe complications such as kidney failure, vision loss, heart failure, and an increased risk of stroke.
