RIGHT SHIN PAIN IN A TENNIS PLAYER

Ms. T, a 48-year-old tennis enthusiast from Ho Chi Minh City, visited CarePlus after experiencing a sharp pain in her right shin during a sudden sprint to chase the ball. The pain worsened the next day, accompanied by mild swelling, making it difficult for her to walk.

At CarePlus, our musculoskeletal specialist conducted a thorough clinical examination and performed a targeted ultrasound. The results revealed intramuscular hematoma between the gastrocnemius and soleus muscles, with a possible partial tear of the gastrocnemius tendon. Importantly, deep vein thrombosis was excluded.

👉 Diagnosis: Intramuscular hematoma due to overload – suspected partial gastrocnemius tendon tear, a common sports injury in activities requiring sudden acceleration or jumping.

👉 Treatment plan: temporary rest from activity, anti-inflammatory and pain relief medication, ultrasound-guided drainage to release hematoma pressure, and close follow-up. MRI would be considered if symptoms persisted.

This case highlights the value of combining detailed clinical assessment and musculoskeletal ultrasound to quickly identify the injury, exclude more serious conditions, and provide timely treatment.

At CarePlus, every ultrasound exam is more than a routine test – it is a focused, dynamic assessment guided by both our musculoskeletal and imaging specialists, ensuring accurate and effective treatment strategies.
