Where should you get the cervical cancer vaccine?

Where to get vaccinated against cervical cancer is the top concern of many women under the age of 26. Currently, cervical cancer is the second most common dangerous cancer (after breast cancer). Besides screening rountine, vaccination is the most effective way to prevent cervical cancer.

Where should you get the cervical cancer vaccine?

1. Why women should take the cervical cancer vaccine?

Cervical cancer is a disease that occurs at the connection between the uterus and vagina of a woman, where a large tumor forms, grows quickly, and difficult to control. Through many studies, more than 99% of cervical cancers have high-risk HPV (Human Papilloma Virus, a virus that causes papillae in humans).

Vaccination is the most effective method for women to actively prevent cervical cancer

When the disease moves to stage IV, cancer cells spread out of the pelvis, to nearby parts such as the bladder, rectum, or can invade distant organs such as the lungs, liver, bone. The treatment becomes complicated, costly, lifetime is reduced, the ability to be cured is very low. According to statistics, every day in Vietnam there are 14 new cases and 7 women die from cervical cancer (according to the HPV Information Center).

The disease usually occurs in women between the ages of 40 and 60, but the HPV virus may have existed silently in the body before. Therefore, women from 9 to 26 years old should actively prevent the disease by getting the HPV vaccine right from the start. The vaccine helps the body make antibodies against some of the most common types of HPV that can lead to cervical cancer, namely, the HPV strains 16 and 18. Because HPV is primarily contagious through sex, so women should be vaccinated before the first sex.

2. Where is the best place to get the vaccine for cervical cancer?

There are 2 vaccines that are widely used in the world and licensed for circulation in Vietnam: Gardasil (immunization of 4 strains of HPV 16,18,6,11 produced by the US) only use for women 9 - 26 years old and Cervarix (2 vaccines of HPV 16.18 produced by Belgium) are only used for women 10-25 years old.

The Gardasil vaccine is a great choice for preventing cervical cancer and genital warts

The protective effect of the HPV vaccine is shown to be at least 5 years after vaccination. The vaccination should be consulted clearly by a doctor, it only works when used for the right people, in accordance with the vaccination procedure of the Ministry of Health.
